Testing

  • Visual Test

Material should be free from deep cracks, laps, pits, rust, excessive scaling, peeling, miss-rolls and bends.
  • Test for Surface Defects of Raw Material

Material should be free from harmful defects like cracks and seam.
  • Internal Soundness

Internal Finish to have No Pipe, Segregations, Pin Holes, Center Looseness, Flaking, Course Dendrites.
  • Dimensional Analysis

Dimensions of the material are checked with Vernier Caliper.
  • Brinell Hardness Testing or As Rolled Hardness

  • Chemical Analysis

To check % Carbon estimation, % Manganese estimation, % Sulphur estimation and like-wise Silicon, Phosphorous, Nickel, Molybdenum and Chromium estimation is done.
  • Inclusion Rating Test

Detects presence of non-metallic inclusions like Sulphide, Alumina, Silicate and Globular oxide. If these found would destroy the product machinability and performance.
  • Grain Size Test

  • Step Down Test

After Normalization & Heat Treatment

  • Brinell Hardness Testing.

  • Rockwell Hardness Testing.

  • Spark Test

For Testing Carbon content. This test is common for both raw material as well as after hardening .
  • Spectral Test

For Testing Chromium content. This test is common for both raw material as well as after hardening.
  • Microstructure Examination

detects uniform distribution of Ferrite which is soft and Lamellar Pearlite which is hard without harmful continues banding Bainite, if found or present it should be less than 10 %.
  • Izod Impact Test and Charpy Impact Test

These tests are done to check the Impact strength.
